How to Cool Down Your Cat in the Hot Summer
This summer is really hot. Every time I go to work, I worry about the cats at home. If I leave the air conditioner on when I go to work, I worry about the electricity bill. On the other hand, if I leave the window open, it feels like only hot air comes into the house. What should I do?
How to Cool Down Your Cat at Home
- Provide a Cool Place: Use an air conditioner or fan to keep the temperature inside the house appropriate so that your cat can rest comfortably.
- Water Supply: Always provide fresh water so that your cat can drink enough water. Place water bowls in several places or use an automatic waterer.
- Cat Hair Care: Regularly brushing your cat's hair can help them feel less hot. It is especially important to take good care of their hair for cats with long hair.
- Wet towel: Some cats don't like water, but when they're hot, they dip their bodies in water or wipe their bodies with a wet towel to lower their body temperature.
Personal experience
First of all, I used wet towels a lot. When it gets hot in the afternoon, I would simply wipe the cat's body with a wet towel while grooming it. I think it's a way for cats to groom themselves and cool down.
And I prepared about 3 water bowls in the house. I placed one in a place where the cat often goes, one in a place where the sunlight doesn't reach, and one next to the dishes. I changed the water twice a day. Once when I went to work in the morning and once when I came home.
Lastly, when I gave them snacks at night, I gave them refrigerated snacks. I put cat snacks in the refrigerator to cool them down before giving them to the cats.
